The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India has extended the PM Cares for Children Scheme till 28th February, 2022. The objective of the Scheme is to ensure comprehensive care and protection of Children in a sustained manner,
Many children have become destitute and orphans in the country. In order to support and maintain such destitute children, the central government had started the PM Cares for Children Scheme.
PM CARES for Children Scheme 2022
All eligible children can now be enrolled till 28th February, 2022 to avail benefits of PM CARES for Children Scheme. Earlier this scheme was valid only till 31st December 2021, but it has been carried forward till the condition of corona in the country.
A letter will be presented to the principal secretaries of all the states and union territories of India, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment Departments.
The PM CARES for Children Scheme on May 29, 2021 was announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi for the children who have lost the parents or legal guardians,adoptive parents, or surviving parents as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic onset on March 11, 2020.
Benefits of This Scheme
The scheme will provide a monthly stipend from age of 18 years and ₹10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age. Along with this, children are also provided insurance up to 5 lakhs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Let us tell you, the interest of this loan will also be given by PM Cares Fund.
Objective:
To ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who have lost their parent(s) to COVID pandemic, in a sustained manner, enable their wellbeing through health insurance,
Empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support on reaching 23 years of age. The PM CARES for children scheme inter alia provides support to these children through convergent approach, gap funding for ensuring education,
health, monthly stipend from the age of 18 years, and lump sum amount of Rs. 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age.
Eligibility:
All children who have lost
i) Both parents or
ii) Surviving parent or
iii) legal guardian/adoptive parents/single adoptive parent due to COVID 19 pandemic, starting from 11.03.2020 the date on which WHO has declared and characterized COVID-19 as pandemic till 31.12.2021, shall be entitled to benefits under this scheme.
iv) Child should not have completed 18 years of age on the date of death of parents.

How to Register in PM Care for Children Scheme
- First, Visit the official website of PM Cares for Child Care Scheme PM CARES – Dashboard (pmcaresforchildren.in)
- you have to click on the option given for Child registration.
- On the new page, you have to fill in your mobile number and captcha code and click on send OTP.
- Now you will get OTP on your mobile number which you fill in the box.
- After this, the child registration form will open in front of you.
- You will get the information asked in the form like your name, date of birth, age, gender, Aadhar number, mobile number, photo, bank details, district, caregiver name, gram panchayat, address, parent’s information, etc. to be filled.
- Next, you have to click on the submit button.
- The registration process will be completed as soon as you click.

How do I apply for PM cares?
The scheme is accessible through an online portal i.e. pmcaresforchildren.in. The portal has been introduced to all the States and UTs on 15.07. 2021 and the States/UTs have been asked to identify and register eligible children on the portal.
